Identify your Weehoo® bike trailer model

Identifying which Weehoo® bike trailer model you have is easy.  Three models have been produced since we started in 2009: the Classic, Pro, and Turbo models.  Each of these models came in single passenger, two passenger and a venture model with extra storage capacity.

By looking at the design of your seat base, where you seat connects to the frame, you can identify which model you own.

Of course serial numbers are one way to identify your trailer, but here is an easier way.

Bushings for your hitch

Your Weehoo® bike trailer comes with 6 bushings to fit 99% of bicycles.  The bushings allow the Weehoo® bike trailer to be installed on seat posts diameters:

  • 25.4mm seatpost

  • 26.8mm seatpost
  • 27.2mm seatpost
  • 28.6mm seatpost
  • 30.9mm seatpost
  • 31.6mm seatpost

It is important, so that the trailer handles superbly, that the bushing fit the seat post tightly, while allowing the bushing to rotate around your seat post.

When you remove your seat post from your bicycle to install the bushing and hitch, you can see the seat post diameter stamped into the seat post.  Choose the bushing that is marked with the same diameter as your seat post.  Even if you cannot find your seat post diameter, you can choose the bushing that fits snuggly onto the seat post without significant movement between the bushing and seat post.

Warning: the thick part of the bushing should be installed on the bottom of the hitch, as indicated in the manual.  This allows the bike trailer to rest on the seat collar, at the bottom of the seat post.

If your seat post is not one of the common sizes, you can do one of two things:

  • Install packaging tape on. your seat post, where the bushing will rest, to thicken the seat post for the bushing.
  • Buy an inexpensive seat post, slightly smaller diameter than your current seat post, then purchase in inexpensive aluminum shim to make the seat post fit your bicycle frame correctly.

Noise from the drive train

Occasionally, you may hear noise from the drive train.  This only occurs when the child pedals backwards and the chain echos inside the chain tubes.  This is normal.  To ensure the Weehoo® bike trailer is safe and maintenance free, we've enclosed most of the drive train.  This ensures that your child will not be able to place their fingers into places their fingers don't belong.  This also keep oil from contacting your Childs clothing, car interior, carpet or other things you don't want greasy.

When pedaling forward, the sound from the chain is much quieter.

Push bar clearance of the bicycle tire

On very small bicycle frames, such as 14 inch mountain bikes with 29 inch tires, you may find that the push bar does not adequately clear the rear tire.  Usually you can remedy this by stacking two bushings to raise the hitch.  Use one of the extra bushings from your bushing kit, choosing the next largest size, and insert it below the hitch and bushing.  The hitch bushing will rest on this lower bushing and raise the height of the hitch 2 inches.  Check the tire clearance again and ensure adequate clearance.

We encourage a minimum of 4 inches of clearance at the highest point of the tire.

Adjusting the Weehoo® bike trailer seat

To adjust the seat, loosen the carriage bolt and black knob that passes through the seat clamp.  Then, with the tire on the ground and the trailer facing upward, grab the seat clamp with both hands and move it forward or backward to your desired position.  The seat clamps are meant to be tight and have friction so that the seat doesn't move while the passenger is pedaling.

Trailers for larger kids

Through lots of feedback from around the world, we've found that 80lbs is the largest load a trailer should have.  Taking into account the trailer itself, you're pulling approximately 100lbs.  Of course our bike trailers are tested at weights much higher than this per ASTM standards, but that does not mean that you should use them for more than 80lbs.

For the best experience for the towing rider, 80lbs is the maximum, where braking distance  and handling are still excellent.

Ensuring your passenger is 80lbs or less is crucial to performance and everyone's safety.

Canadian customers

We love our Canadian customers and would be grateful for them to buy Weehoo® bike trailers from a Canadian retailer.  We have tried shipping from the USA into Canada, and have found customs and delivery to be quite challenging for Canadian customers.  Consequently, we do not ship from the USA to Canada.

Dropper seat posts

So long as there is enough of the static portion of the seat post extending from the bicycle frame, you can install the hitch to dropper seat posts.  A clamshell type hitch is under development, but still a while out from delivery.  In the mean time you must disconnect the cable from the dropper seat post to install the hitch.  We're sorry for the inconvenience.  At the time the Weehoo® bike trailer was developed, dropper seat posts weren't common.

Push bar will not fit onto frame

When you first install the push bar onto the frame, you may find that it is a very tight fit.  This is because of the paint and the need for the push bar to fit the frame tightly.  Sometimes, it may be helpful to angle the push bar, starting with one side first, then rocking the push bar fully onto the frame.  This is the case only for the first time the push bar is installed onto the frame.  If you remove the push bar, the second installation will be very easy.

Compatible with bike racks

Most often, you will find that there is not enough clearance for the push bar to clear the bike rack.  Consequently, the Weehoo® bike trailer cannot be used with many bike racks.

eBike compatibility (electric bicycles)

Electric bicycles are wonderful for Weehoo® bike trailers and make a very enjoyable experience.  You will find the best compatibility on electric bicycles where the battery is installed in the frame.  For electric bicycles where the battery is on a rear rack, over the rear wheel, you may find there is not adequate clearance for the push bar.

Recumbent bicycle and folding bicycle compatibility

The Weehoo® bike trailer must be installed on a bicycle with a seat collar at least at least 25 inches from the ground.  This ensures that the trailer has adequate ground clearance and the child is level or even tipped slightly backward, which is desirable.  Bicycles without conventional seat posts are not compatible with the Weehoo® bike trailer.

Seat post sizes that fit the Weehoo® bushings include:

  • 25.4mm seatpost

  • 26.8mm seatpost
  • 27.2mm seatpost
  • 28.6mm seatpost
  • 30.9mm seatpost
  • 31.6mm seatpost

For other seat post sizes such as 29.2mm, there are two methods of fitting the Weehoo® bike trailer to your bicycle:

  • Install packaging tape on. your seat post, where the bushing will rest, to thicken the seat post for the bushing.
  • Buy an inexpensive seat post, slightly smaller diameter than your current seat post, then purchase in inexpensive aluminum shim to make the seat post fit your bicycle frame correctly.
